Dorrance Dance "SOUNDScape"
Speaking in Dance | "I'm 41, the oldest dancer in the company, and when I see Michelle start to drop into the squat, I try to get that energy in that moment: I try to power up," said @nicholasvanyoung, the associate artistic director of Dorrance Dance. This ensemble section comes toward the end of "SOUNDspace," part of the company's season at @nycitycenter starting March 28. "The very first step that you see us doing is a flying riff," said Michelle Dorrance, or @mashdeez. "Using the toe-heel and then the heel drop on the opposing leg, we're doing riffs at each other." What makes it fly is the jump in between. In front are the breakers Ephrat Asherie (Bounce) and Matthew West (Megawatt), but, really, it's about the strength of the group. "We're looking across at one another so we feel each other's energy really clearly, and some people are fierce and gritting their teeth and others are just smiling," Nicholas told the #nytimes writer @giadk. "It's like we're pulling energy from the earth." @alinarancier made this video for #SpeakingInDance, our weekly series exploring the world of #dance.

"Ay Ay I" Heart of Fangs
A man and a woman regretfully hold back their true emotions for each other.
With ‘Ay’ I was interested in exploring the games of desire that people play against themselves and others. It is a piece about our true desires facing a societal expectation to contain oneself.
‘Ay’ is a short experimental film written, directed, and co-starring myself Dominican American artist Alina Maria Rancier. The music is written & performed by me under my musical alias 'Heart of Fangs'.

‘Realise Realise’ is a video piece about being so unconsciously afraid of intimacy that one just lives off of the initial spark and passion of a romantic relationship, but then for a million reason fear takes over once a deeper intimacy begins to form. So one runs off too afraid to face it, too uncomfortable to stay still in this possible love we have found.
The video is also a modern metaphor to what dating feels like in a big city like NYC where online dating might make you feel like there are endless possibilities out there.

"If only the wind slowed down, I'd feel you were here some how.... it carries me back...straight into you..."
Music video for the band NZCA LINES (pronounced Nazca lines).
Melancholic and magnetic Persephone holds a dark secret, deep inside herself. On a night out, while numbing her inner demons, she meets Roman: a sweet charmer, who can’t avoid her pull. Will he get lost in her darkness?
The music video is about how one can get lost within that lucid hopeful promise of a new love, and how we can get sucked in and possibly disappear into the other lover’s darkness. It is also about that lonely, empty feeling within one’s chest and wanting to fill it with in this case, a lover.

Video for NZCA LINE'S song "Infinite Summer". I wanted to make a hot sexy abstract video for it, it was initially intended to just be used as live performance background visuals. We shot some extreme closeups of sweat on glistening bodies, cut in some tropical footage I shot down in Dominican Republic, had some fun underwater shooting and then waterfall moments.

Music video for Clementine & the Galaxy. I lead my art dept. and with them made those paper waves and cotton clouds, the heart piñatas, and other sets. I added the explosion effects and confetti in CGI through After Effects.
